August 21- Fire Update (Thompson River Complex Wildfire)

The Thompson River Complex, which started from lightning, is located approximately 6 miles northeast of Thompson Falls, Montana. The complex consists of three original fires: the Koo Koo Sint, Spruce, and Marmot. Rick Kusicko’s Northern Rockies Type 2 Incident Management Team has been managing the complex since August 9 and is preparing to transfer it back to the local Ranger District’s Type 3 Team at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22. As a result, this will be the last daily update, unless fire activity increases significantly. Cooler and damper weather over the last week has significantly diminished fire activity, as well as the potential for fire spread. The Marmot Fire and Koo Koo Sint fires are both 100% contained; however, both fire areas will continue to be patrolled. Within the Spruce Fire perimeter, there are still hot spots as well as areas of unburned fuels.
